And action. Happy Thursday. Ladies and gents, welcome back. It's your girl, Sarah, but unfortunately, Natalie is not with us, you guys. It's very honest stuff. She is having trouble issues and if you're new around here, this is not new. She is stranded in Pittsburgh. I believe I keep messing it up, but thankfully we had a guest scheduled for today and you guys are going to love and adore and know exactly who he is when you hear his voice. He's one of the most iconic entertainment journalists of our generation. Please, please, the whole love. Who is this? My mom is with me and I'm so excited. Hi, Sarah, how are you? I'm great. So Natalie is she's just in at the airport right now. Yeah. So thank you for not canceling on us because it's just me. She, you know, she doesn't have kids. She's not married yet. She's living the life, the girls on a trip every weekend. And unfortunately, Tropical Storm Deb Hurricane Deb had Deb. So Natalie was at the airport all day yesterday. She woke up at 6:00 a.m. Her flight got canceled. I believe she's on an Amtrak. She's somewhere. She's cold. She took a train to try to make this podcast happen. Things are bad. Wow. Oh my gosh. I mean, I would never cancel on you, your family. I just I felt a little bad. I offered to reschedule. But apparently you wanted to do the show by yourself. I don't know. Is there a rift going on? Yeah, you know, I love what can I say? I love the spotlight. Know, you know, I knew it was going to take Natalie a day or three to recover from this because this is one of, you know, if you're if you're a long time listener, you guys, this might be one of the top three. She's had a lot of bad ones. This is a top one. And to be honest, I was scared to text her and say, So how about tomorrow or the next day or the next day? Because I just, you know, she needed a minute and that's OK because she carries me a lot. It's my turn to carry her. So I'm here to carry. You guys are a good team. I'm honored to be here. I know we've talked about this for a little bit. And, you know, I think the world of you and your family and I just love Ty and I'll do anything whatever you guys need. So thank you for having me on. I'm excited. I will say there's a little more pressure now because, you know, normally it's like podcast vibes. This is giving one on one interview, so I'm feeling like I really need to like crack the chops a little bit more. So we're going to give it a whirl. You are, as I mentioned, you're like the guy. No, but like, seriously, you are. You're ridiculous. What are you talking about? You literally sound like my mom. I love it, though it's really good for my soul. I feel like I could listen to you, say these kind things every morning and just get me out of bed and and make me feel excited about life. By the way, I don't do a lot of podcast interviews only because I I feel like I don't even know what to do. Like, I'm going back and forth because my I'm really working on my posture right now. So if I look like I'm just so squirrely, it's that I'm not in any club drugs. No, no. Wow. There's so much to unpack. Well, you might not do a lot of podcast because you're not used to being the interviewee. You know your you've made a career in a life out of being the interviewer. However, you were also in front of the camera. You know, we can roll on every week and I can be in bed because we record this. But you know, I'm going to pick and choose what I want out there like, the lighting has got to be good. I got it. You know, the hand gestures got to be on. But for the most part, you know, I have the face for radio, and so I'm going to be ridiculous. You're used to lights camera action. I haven't seen you in this light before, and I really obviously I've listened, but I haven't seen you like talking to me when you're on, you know? And it just comes very natural. So I think that I the first and foremost, you make me feel comfortable, and that's the most important thing, as you know, by now when you're interviewing someone. So I mean, hopefully you do this forever. You know, I will say, I do. I do like podcasting a lot. I enjoy it a lot. But this isn't about me. OK, wait, I thought you said, I'm like, your mom. I want to bring attention to your Instagram and your family. You are a hilarious follow. If you guys are not following Jesus and like you are really funny, Instagrammer, I don't know what we want to call it, but does that come natural like and that made me think of because you're always doing funny bits with your parents and that just kills me. I prefer tastemaker. OK? How insane is that word tastemaker? It's just why does it upset me? There's a few words in life that upset me. I'm a tastemaker. Yes, but it's going to come up with a better name. Yeah, I my dad is a very funny human being, and I feel like he gave me a little bit of his his chops, if you will. So I like to prank people. I like to just kind of make fun of things when if something's sad, I'm kind of the guy who tries to find the light in it. And I just kind of record my daily adventures as a dad of two. I've got a two year old son, two and a half, basically, and a 10 month old daughter, River and Poppy. And it's it's been great. And so kind of balancing life as a dad and being married and being a TV host and producing things. It is. It's an epic adventure, to say the least. OK, this is a dumb question because like now, now, OK, now that I'm going to say it, you know, whatever. But do you love being a dad? I love it. I love it. I I felt like in the beginning that it took me a second just to kind of catch my feet, if you will. I had no idea what to expect. You have so many people, as you know, giving you advice, and I just wanted to experience it and figure it out on my own. I am really loving the time with my son right now that two and a half age and I feel like as they get older, I feel like I have my body. This is my guy, my homie. I'm still getting used to my daughter because it's almost like when you have two kids. So my wife is like full on with poppy, I'm full on with river, and I'm going out of my way every single day to have, like, can I get an extra 20 minutes with Poppy? So I feel like I can connect and understand her and stuff. But it's a total dance. But Reverend I we went to the Reagan Museum yesterday. I don't even go to museums. I woke up and I was tired and I said, We get up. We got to shake this up a little bit. So we went to a museum and we went on the old Air Force One and a helicopter, and he's just freaking out the whole time. And I feel like we're communicating now. He's talking a little bit. He knows a little Spanish. We're talking to colleges. I don't want to brag. And it's yeah, it's just been a real joy. It's been an absolute joy. I'm having the time of my life with it. Truly, I mean, and you're we are very similar. Our kids are similar ages. So it's been a it's been a wild three years, to say the least. I mean, babies after babies, and it's no joke. It's really it's really a lot. No, I mean, the last three years, how do I put this? So during COVID, they said, you know, you have to work remotely. I was doing a show called In the Room, which is you're in the room with celebrities. It was my dream show after E ! News moved to New York, and I did that for six years and I was just loving this interim show I had. Like Tom Brady The Kardashians, we had a chip and Joanna Gaines, Gordon Ramsay, like, I was doing all these amazing people that I love and then COVID and then try to do something remotely. I felt like I really couldn't connect like I was connecting in person. So then I we just kind of agreed, Hey, we're not going to be able to do this anymore. And then I have my son and then I have my daughter, which we weren't expecting. And then all of a sudden, the strike goes on. So for the past three years, I feel like it's been a lot of joy and a lot of sadness and a lot of joy and sadness again. And it's been it's been a total ride. And when I'm really living out my gift, something that I've wanted to do my entire life, I feel like I'm a better husband and a better dad. So I've learned a lot. The past three years. There's been a lot of emotions. Yes, I can completely relate to that, I think that also being a parent. During the COVID adjacent times, it was also crazy because like I know Lauren and I, both of our pregnancies were pretty covered, you know, like Ty didn't go to any of the appointments and it was a lot of a lot of fear around it. But as if being a parent isn't scary enough, you know, then throw in that time. But. It's exciting now because you probably feel like you're getting out of the thick of like the newborn. You know what I mean, like puppies getting a little older, she's almost one rivers at a good age. You're doing a lot more now. As you mentioned, you were at news for 16 years. Like. That's that's a long time, huh? It's my first job. Yeah. How did that? Let's go there because I don't know if you know this which you might, but I'm going to enlighten you. Do you know that there's like a whole generation of girls who like, lived and breathed E ! News and all they wanted to be was like Julianna and like, probably married to you? Yeah, I don't know about the latter portion of that comment, but I am fully aware and I still all the time. It's interesting whether it's Florida, Nashville, Texas, not so much California. When when we go to those places, it's people say the kind of stuff like I grew up watching you. Yeah, that makes me feel a little old, but I actually don't get offended by that. It's such a sweet thing to say. I had you on my dorm all the time. I think that was the best time and entertainment news just because social media hadn't really popped. And when you talk about 2008, nine, 10, 11, 12, like the crux of when I was at E ! Some of those stories that the you know, the Britney stories covering the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith, like I was in the Bahamas for a month, the death of Michael Jackson. I mean, it was just there are so many massive news stories. And I loved it. I mean, I was a kid who when I was 12, I built a studio in my house. I played news. I lived in Florida. Every single day. I would chase new scenes. I had a police scanner. It was like that Nightcrawler movie that Jake Gyllenhaal signed, and I would go to very dangerous areas and report on the news for a fake news outlet that no one saw. There was no YouTube back then. So I have thousands of VHS tapes and I moved to California, got the gig. I was working at the Beverly Center at diesel folding jeans for a boss who wasn't very nice to me and just auditioning. And then I got that job and I was so nervous in the beginning. But Julianna became a fast friend and helped me so much, and she's like, You got to get out of your head. I'm like, What do I do with my hands? She's like, You've been doing this since you were 12. You know what you're doing? But it was this a whole nother level? And you know, entertainment news is different these days, right? Because you're getting everything on your phone. But I think the cool part is I felt really nostalgic lately because the bosses at he asked me to come back in kind of like, I don't even know what you would call it, but like, I'm hosting all this week. I hosted a little bit last week, so I go in there when they need me. I do interviews kind of when they need me, it's kind of like a senior role, which is cool unofficially. And it's been cool to go back because it's the studio that we used to shoot in a lot of the same crew members. And yeah, it's been awesome. Is producer Tom there? Tom is not there, but he's doing another show, but I keep in touch with him all the time. Tom Mack. I mean, he would always come on the set and, you know, he was his own. He was like a big time celebrity. It is like, How is Tom? How is Tom? I'm like our stage manager. Yeah, he's doing amazing. Yet you know that that means it's gone viral. And it's like if they filmed inside out, inside my head, it would literally be you, Julian. Melanie Carr, maybe Terrence. Tom Ryan. Not that's my head. Yeah, it's I didn't realize you were a super fan of any news, so you get nervous when you see me in Idaho. Yeah, hi. I'm trying to remember I don't remember when the friendship came about. And I think ties like, yes, my friend Jason. And he's like trying to tell me, I'm like. I'm sorry, Ty, you've been watching the guy on my TV every night, what do you mean, my friend Jason? He's like, Oh yeah, that guy, I'm like, Tyler's not stubborn in love it. Like, Let's not pretend. What are you having in 11 now? What's going on? The double airing back then, I just while I mean, my parents love that they watch both broadcasts, but I'm pretty sure you've been around actual celebrities and legends, so thank you for humoring me. But yeah, but I will say, when I did meet you, I'm like, Oh my God, like that is weird because, yeah, I had been watching you on my TV and I am in that box of college e e news e exclamation point. Like that was our there was no social media. That was our thing. You know, we're watching Kardashians. We were watching all of our reality TV and all of our news. That's how, you know, as early 20 girls, that's how we got it. Did you watch Chelsea Handler, Total Divas? I mean, they had a heck of a line up back then? No, not like I don't were you? Yeah. What was your stuff? No, we've got the tape was on air. I was watching it like time. I would watch Chelsea Handler every night before bed. Really? Oh, he loved her. Loved. Yeah. Well, no, I I am. I think that's why I love podcasting so much, because for me, I've always come on here and said, like, I like to write, I wanted to do journalism. I wanted to, you know, I've been reading People magazine since I was eight years old. I love entertainment, but the whole reading off a prompter sounds scary and hard. Like, How do you read so fast? Have you done? Have you done much prompter work before? Never. So what I did, I begged my parents to buy me a teleprompter when I was younger, but my dad's like my mom was a school teacher and guidance counselor. My dad was in construction and he's like, Now it's too expensive. Yeah. So I said, Well, I'm I just need a TV and an extra TV, and then what I'll do is put the closed caption on and then I'll mute the TV. So I would put the video of whatever it was I was talking about over, and then I would read the closed caption off of the other TV. And that's how I started doing teleprompter without having to buy a teleprompter because but sometimes the words move really fast. So that got a little tricky, but I think that's what helped me before I got to college. I just felt like I had two years of experience and I knew what I wanted to do. And that helped me when I moved to L.A. because I just practiced like crazy. And that's what I always tell people. Now I'm like, now you have a teleprompter app. It's called Smart Pro, really good and it's free, and you could just put scripts in there. And it's it's perfect because you can adjust it to your speed. And I love that we're talking about teleprompters right now. Like for the one percent of people that care, you don't know for our listeners are going to love this because a lot of them are, you know, whenever not only I mean, we talk about all the time, how much we watch fashion police, what's back like this is the viewer, you know, your gals are listening. And so I feel like they will love this. But. When it came out, like you mentioned when they moved in, they made the shift. Where did you mentally go, where did you think you were going, what was the end goal? I know you have a lot of projects and obviously you're a huge, you know. You were so iconic in this role, but you also loved sports. And so where did you? Did you panic take your business International Enterprise Europe network as the world's largest network, providing free support and advice to SMEs with global ambitions. Visit and Dash Ireland dot com and take your business global today. Yeah, yeah, I definitely felt like a huge loss when it wasn't in my life. I felt like I put a lot of, I mean, counselling. By the way, for the first time ever, I felt like I attach my identity to my job because I got a high from ever since I was a kid from being on camera. Not because of fame, not because of anything. It's just because I'm obsessed with interviewing people. I'm obsessed with telling stories and getting to know people. So when that was taken away during COVID, I felt I had this unhealthy identity to my job. So I don't have all the answers and probably never will. But I'm still trying to. I feel like I'm getting to an understanding where if if there is a time where I'm in between shows, which is a fancy word for saying unemployed because there was like for a year and a half where like I had zero gigs because of either the strike or COVID or I was a dad and couldn't, you know, commit to something. And that was that was a real big learning experience for me. But I yeah, it was. It was it was very tough and challenging. But now I feel like I have, you know, I caught my footing. I just said to myself, I really want to work on shows that I feel like I'm supposed to do. So I started developing a show over a year ago that I do with my best friend Taylor Lautner and a guy named Jimmy Dart's. We haven't officially announced that. We've teased that a little bit on social media, but essentially it's going around the country and it's changing people's lives and making their dreams come true. And we got a lot of no's, and then one network did pick it up and I started crying because I'm a dad now and I'm emotional and and the executive is like, You do realize why you're getting emotional right now. And I'm like, Yeah, it's not because you said it really yes to it. I'm very excited, but it's like, it's because you're doing something that you've always wanted to do in your heart. And I'm not saying entertainment news. Has it been in my heart for a long time? But we know that it's fun and it's entertaining, but it's not changing lives. So I noticed, like with a shift with social media, that, you know, entertainment news was changing. It still is changing. There's a lot of downsizing going on. So I gravitated more towards shows like I'm doing a PGA Tour show where I interview these golfers and I'm like, I kinda want to talk a little bit about golf, but I really want to know who you are as a husband, as a dad, as a friend. And and we go to their house and we cook and it's called swing by and it's just been doing really well. And so I've been doing that. And then this show with these guys, and that's been really, really fulfilling for me because I just had to pivot and I wanted to pivot in a way, thankfully, where it felt fulfilling. And that's where we're at with it. Well, I mean, that's all you can really do at this point. It's like, you know, I feel like once you become a parent. Everything else kind of is confusing. And then you're kind of just like, you know what? No more bulls**t. I want to be happy. Like you said, I want to be a good husband and a good dad, and I can only do that if I'm fulfilled and happy. And of course, your children fulfill you. But as someone who's worked since you were essentially 12, I imagine that you want to keep going. You mentioned that you're doing the golf show. Golf is like kind of having a moment now. Is that Cheney or that it is? Golf spin in my life. Ever since I was a kid, my uncle played on the senior tour and he would make me hit sand shots at seven a.m. before school. I hated it. I I liked playing, but I knew I never wanted to be a professional golfer. One time I was hitting a sand shot and there is this really bad accident and my uncle like, Look back and then look back again. And I was gone and I jumped the fence. I always carry a video camera in my car, and I was shooting the accident and interviewing the people. I'm like, How's your neck? I'm like, literally holding my. I have the footage. I saw it. It's insane. I just couldn't stop reporting. But I was still attached to the game of golf, and I pitched this idea a little over a year ago. And I know some of the golfers and I just I went to Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler and some of these guys and I said, Hey, what if we just do something at your house and we talk about life? And so I led with Ricky and then Justin and then Wyndham Clark. Then we did some other At-Home stuff. I've got another one coming up that we haven't announced. That will be very exciting. And we're just, yeah, we keep rolling them out. And they've been well-received, thankfully. And it's been enjoyable to to get to know the guys better. Well, and that's fun, you. I feel like you are very good, and I don't know. I don't personally know any other, you know, people on TV, so I can't attest to that, but I feel like you're very good at being a friend, but then also being able to tell a story, but then also like knowing how to do your job. And I guess that comes with them trusting you because you run in a very fun circle. But you also are, you know? Has that ever been hard, like when you were on E ! News? Like, I got a break? This story is, but it's about a person I'm close with or a friend or, you know? Yeah, I had to stand up for. What was right? Many, many, many times and there were meetings in my boss's office. There were tears. There were arguments there. There was a lot. And I remember one story in particular, I just felt like this particular celebrity was not in a good headspace, and this was a little bit before mental health was on. A lot of people's radar. Yeah. And I just, you know, we're witnessing the downward spiral of a human being. I think we got to be extra sensitive here. And and they they heard me out and and I think we handled it more delicately. And I think that was the beginning of a lot of those things. But I've changed so many stories, not where I'm like, I'm not going to talk about this. I'm SimpliSafeing, like, I'm too close to this story. Let's have someone else do it. I mean, look, we're not. We're not. It's not politics, you know? But, but it's still something. Yeah, I always I never want to. First and foremost, I care about my friends. There's a protection there that is more important than my job, and I will protect my friends at all costs and have done it and will continue to do it. And I don't care about a story if it jeopardizes like something that I was at to get a little bit of a scoop. I'm like, That's like ten seconds of like an exclusive versus a friendship that they're very they're very hard to come by in L.A. in general, but especially in this city and feel like we finally got a really great group of friends around us. It's it's such a good point because I mean, we're nowhere near your. Level or have your, you know, following, but Natalie and I love how you keep doing it, what are you talking? Well, I'm you know, we've got like, you know, a couple of thousand people a week listening where it's like when you, you know, you're on people's TVs, but I feel the same. I often come on here and I've told multiple scenarios or situations where I'm like, Yes, I could tell the story. We'd be the number one podcast. We go viral. You know, why don't you? Because there's that level of me being like, I just, I don't I don't have it in me to to do. And so I can understand where you're. I completely understand what you're saying, where it's like. First of all, it's about protecting. And second of all, is it worth it? You know, because I will say it is hard and I'm sure the same, you know, when you're breaking stories, you know, we'll come on here or we'll see a podcast, another podcast go viral because of X, Y and Z. And you know, Natalie and I will tell your story so much. I'm like, I know, but I'm never going to tell that story, you know? Yeah, it's refreshing to hear because it's pretty rare. And I think early on there wasn't the luxury. I think this is important to say there wasn't the luxury early on to always say no or I can't because I'd get fired. Right? So there was a couple of things. There were a couple of times after stories. I'm like, Man, that just didn't feel like that didn't sit right in my soul. And I and I spoke up early on. But then, after a couple of years, when you build some credibility and you're and you know, you're worth. I was like, This is not best for me, so either put someone else on it or I'm quite frankly, not going to do it. I think it's a delicate dance, but it took some time getting used to. Yeah, and I think that, you know, obviously in the end, like you said, you protect your friendships and your friendships will. They'll be there and they'll grow and they'll understand, you know, for sure. They didn't want to be friends with a, you know, entertainment reporter. They wouldn't, but I think that you have that level of trust. I was watching the Olympics to Segway. Uh huh.. Of when you think and how are you enjoying it? Oh geez. And like, I'm a fanatic, like, I love the Olympics. Hello, it's in our blood tie. And like, we are just completely obsessed with all things Olympics. Are you excited that golf is in the Olympics? Of course. It was really cool seeing Scottie Scheffler yesterday and the emotion when the anthem was playing. I mean, it's just it was really, really cool to to see him react because it's almost like, is this guy on cruise control is, you know, winning tournaments left and right just seems so easy. But to see the emotion out of him was really cool. Well, and let's not forget the guy was in jail like, yeah, wild. He went from getting arrested to still being the number one golfer in the world to winning a gold medal for America. Yeah, I watched. The timing is also interesting in terms of the actual like, how are you watching with kids right now? Like the TR, the tee times are like 3:30 in the morning for me, first of all. I love it, but I'm not watching golf, let's be honest, my dad has it on. He's watching. I have. I have no. What are you into gymnastics? You know, I'm a big gymnastics swimming. I find my own. I love volleyball. Let's I can't come on here and say, I don't. I will watch any one, any time play volleyball. I really love it all I found myself watching. What is it called cycling the other day? Cycling. I want to. I don't know if you've been following it all, but I have a couple of things I want to bring to your attention because I have been causing a scene about them on our Instagram. So one of the things that I was watching was the triathlon. Have you heard about how disgusting the scene river is? Yes, I actually looked up how to say it. I think it's Sen, right? As he said, OK, I want to say it. Like the French say, I listen to Mike. Mike Tirico, say it. So I'm like, I don't want to screw how's. So yes, I have absolutely been following this, and I know a couple of swimmers or athletes have pulled out because they got sick after doing the initial trial or the, you know, what is it like the semi-finals or before like the main event? Yeah, and it's that's absurd. They spent over a billion dollars to clean up the scene, and it doesn't seem very clean to me. I don't want to get I don't have diarrhea, but for the biggest day in my life. So I guess that's my question. And maybe there's a reason we don't know. But what is Happ like? How sick are we talking and what's hot like, are they inhaling the water? Is it just what's living in the water? Well, you definitely. I'm no swimmer. I mean, but I've dabbled in the pool here and there. You water goes in the system. Yeah. And the best. I don't want to be drinking anything from the center or really from the ocean or a public pool or anything like that. I'm more into a filtered water, if you will, and alkaline. And I just think it's I understand what they were trying to do. The idea of like the first time in a long time people could go back in the sand. You got the picturesque views and Paris, but I think it's a mess and you have to understand, yes, it's entertaining for us to watch, but these these athletes for years. And then on top of that, like this is their two weeks and then it's another four years. They put years of their time, effort, life into this and we cannot be giving them diarrhea. No, I completely agree. I completely agree with you. So I'm I for for probably the wrong reasons. I'm hooked on that. I'm definitely keeping up with that because I got to know what's going down and I threw up. Is that you? You just have to remember that he throw up that you throw. Yeah, I'm I'm not. Well, and to go back to your question, Sicily is obsessed with the Olympics. Like, I'm doing my job now. I don't want to come on here and say we're a big screen time family. However, when the Olympics are on, the TV is on and if your girls watching let her watch because I think she's learning something, we will get to the the good part of the Olympics. But I have one more thing to bring up that I don't know if it's on your radar, but it's on mine and I can't come on here without cussing somebody out. Did you know there's a Dutch volleyball player who thankfully was eliminated, but he served four years in prison for rape? Yes. I actually couldn't believe the headline when I read it, so I rabbit trail and did some research on that story. And don't quote me, but I think he moved to a different country so he could compete. And there seem to be a lot of loopholes, and the idea that he's playing just seemed a bit mind boggling to me. Yeah, kind of. I kind of feel like I don't really know what's going on over at the IOC, but you know, we're big. We're big on no drugs. Yeah, OK. But like, the rape is confusing, and personally, that's a huge issue. I feel like there's been a ton of misses. I have no idea who's running the ship over there, but there needs to be some pretty serious questions asked about. There's been a whole lot of things, you know, I think, you know, this year where people have been outspoken vocal. I don't know how the viewers in terms of viewership compared to other years, but it seemed to affect it. And you know, you ultimately will have to answer to that type of stuff because people don't want to, you know, people, people want to just enjoy sports. They don't want to, you know, be caught up in in all the drama and stuff. And you know, you can't there's no secrets anymore. So people are going to bring those stories to light and magnify it. And I really think it hurts the games. But yeah, I think it was a really unfortunate move. Really unfortunate. I am happy to report, though they got beat. So. The crowd went, as you can imagine, not nuts when he was when he was ousted. Let's talk about Simon. I watched her documentary on Netflix two episodes. OK, yeah, I haven't finished, but so far, so good. So far, so good. I'm happy to report again that they are filming, so we're getting all of this now for season two. I mean, the goat, I think that's all there really is to say. It's been. So unbelievably cool watching her and being just alive for it, because you don't see stuff like this happen very often. She will be the greatest of all time for many, many, many, many, many years to come, maybe forever. It's just absurd what she can do it. It's i- it's hard to process. I can't even imagine attempting even the move at the end where she just puts her hand up like this. I would her. I would hurt myself. Yeah, the the air that she gets, that amount of flips that she puts into it compared to others. I mean, they're all incredibly talented, right? But when you look at her and she adds so many extra things in her routine, it just becomes second nature. And I know a lot of people have had a hard time with how outspoken she's been. I think recently she was calling out the audience for shushing and reporters for asking What's next after you win the medal? And she has the right to say those things when you work your whole life to get a gold medal or any medal, for that matter. And it's like, OK, what's next? It's like, Let let's marinate in the moment and the beauty of this. So I'm cool with her being outspoken. This is her time. She's captured the games and she's a queen. Did you ever cover the Olympics? Like, did you ever? I did, yes. I covered. The last one I covered was Sochi, not my favorite, just because it was pretty isolating. And you're not, you know, Russia, you're not like out on the streets, riding bicycles and stuff. So Paris sounds a lot more fun. Were you in Rio? I wasn't in Rio. No, I didn't make that one. Why? Something that I just, you know, it lives in my mind, unfortunately, and it'll never go away is like, what was going on with Ryan Lochte when they got arrested? Like, I can never forget that. I remember a cover that oh, we covered it for sure. Like Ryan had his own reality show on E ! Oh yes. So I interviewed him so many times. I've had a night with him in Vegas, like at the club. I'm like, What am I doing? I don't even do shots. I did twice. Two shots, I believe. I just never, you know, unfortunately, I hate it for him that that it follows him. But like, I can never forget that I can never think about. I was in Idaho and we woke up to like, you know, the ticker on your phone. That's like Olympians arrested. And we're just kind of like, it's going on. And we never really got any answers. I don't I. It's hard to remember the full details, but a lot of stuff. Excuse me, didn't add up. And but I think the Olympic Village like what one girl left the Olympic Village one athlete recently, and they disqualified her. Can you imagine? So I think I think sometimes they're just dying to get outside, and they just may not be properly thinking through what are the consequences of my actions? This is a really important couple of weeks, but they just kind of get out of there for a little bit and sometimes it doesn't go well. Yeah, sometimes it doesn't go well. They're someone who it's going pretty well for and they want to get your take on this. There's a check. Doubles tennis. Couple, but they broke up, but they committed to. Staying together and training for the Olympics, could you ever do that with an ex? Hmm. I feel like. Let me think. I have really good relationships with almost all of my exes, except one, and it's not like we don't have a good relationship. We just haven't spoken since we broke up. Respectfully. But you know, she's gone on to have kids and she's doing great. But I do have a couple of exes that I still am very cool with my wife's cool with. And I think we it would be a little awkward, but anything for the metal, you know, I'm saying, yes, I could in I'm way too. It's fascinating to me. Like, I already fight with Ty on the pickleball court. Imagine me fighting with someone who I can't stand. Do you bring up your exes in front of Ty? Is he cool with that? Now. I don't bring them up, but I don't I don't. What if there's a reason, if there's a reason? Oh man, this this lottery reminds me of Kevin when we dated in 2008. You would never do that just for like a funny little bit. No, I don't think I would ever do that. Ty's very sensitive. And also he'd just be like, OK, like, he doesn't think I'm as funny as I think I am. So we have to change that. If I want to make, you know, a high school boyfriend joke, he'll be like, That's cool. And and then it just falls flat. And then I'm uncomfortable. Well, well, yeah, maybe you should. Yeah, maybe you should say no to partnering up with an ex. Yeah, I thought it was really cool, though, that they did that. Like, I just thought, You know you. I'm obsessed with watching sports documentaries, so I just know how much training goes on for all these people. So I'm like, You're spending so much time with this person and you are committing to them and like, good on you. Maybe it made them better once they broke up. By the way, you said documentaries. I am so hooked on docs right now. I stay up way too late. And that's probably why my my son is crying right now. Because he. You're good, honey. OK, daddy, I'll be right down sugar. But she but I just am obsessed with docs. And but now I just started getting into a show that everybody's talking about. I have to ask you, have you seen presumed innocent? I was just going to say, Please God, do not let him ask me that. OK. You haven't. I have heard someone on this podcast like every week, and they have told me to watch it and I have not watched it. Natalie's obsessed. She's been told, Why will you watch it? I just keep forgetting to be honest. Like, please put it down, put a little post-it note, put it in your day timer, and you have to start watching it. I've heard it is the show. It's Apple's number one streaming show. They're already bringing you back for another season, which doesn't give anything away, by the way. No, I fully intend on watching it. I'm a Jake Gyllenhaal gal. Yeah, and he he is just a freak in this role. And then his brother in law, Peter Sarsgaard I saw, is so it's cool to see them acting opposite each other. The whole cast is just unbelievably talented. Yeah, we're going to be hearing that name all those names for the entire awards season. I wasn't going to ask, but you brought it up. Not me. What's the dollar amount? How do we get you back on the red carpet for awards season? I don't know if I miss it, really. I don't know if I miss it. Well, I think, yeah, thank you. I think I think it was a really special time. I'm not even being. I'm just being completely real. It's different now. This is different. It feels different. It's it doesn't sound as fun anymore. To me, that was not my favorite part of the job. There was an extraordinary amount of pressure. I'm cool with pressure. I'm used to it. But for that same finite three or four hours, I mean, that was the Super Bowl on E and it was so much. And after doing like, I don't know, 14 Oscars, I'm good. I feel like I'm good. I'd rather just sit at home and watch it. And I think it had its time in my life and I'm cool with it. I'm cool with it. I mean, it's nice to hear you say that, because I think as the viewer like it was also our Super Bowl, like it was my Super Bowl watching the red carpets and I feel like that. You know, when you think E you think E news, you think Kardashians and then you think, you know, red carpet, because that was such whatever awards show it was. That's what you turned on. I will say I have not watched many red carpets since. Just because let me just say it's bedtime now for my children. Anytime there is an award show, I'm missing it, or any time there's a, you know, red carpet, I'm missing it because that is like primetime bedtime. But I'm also getting updates from Natalie, and that always seems like the fun part to me. So it's interesting to hear that. I can imagine it being grueling because it's well, I'm I mean, I'm not saying for everybody, but for me, I'm a massive research freak, so I would start a couple of months in advance. You also don't know who you're getting. So it's not like, OK, I'm going to interview 14 people and I know exactly what we're going to talk about. No, I'm going to get a book with 78 nominees inside, and I want to make sure that first off, it's impossible to watch every one of those shows because you would have zero life. And it's not. It's not even feasible. But I want to at least watch a trailer or a couple of episodes, and I want to just have everything down pat. And then on that day, it's like, Oh, we're going to send this person and oh, this person's not talking, what if we bring them? We're going to pair them together. And by the way, they're bringing their aunt, their uncle, their dog, their neighbor and year live and everybody. It hit a point where I felt like people were watching some time and they were waiting for you to make a mistake so it could go viral. And there was just there was a pressure to it. That is, you know, something that I definitely don't miss. But I love live television, don't get me wrong. But there was something about that. I think the first Emmys I took over for Ryan Seacrest, I was brushing my teeth. And we still joke about it to the state. Last week, La Low, my wife said something about it and she she was in there, were brushing your teeth, and I just started gagging and I was like. And she's like, Are you good? Like, what exactly is happening? And I was like, OK, I'm fine, I'm fine. I just I think I'm so nervous. I every time I brush my tongue, I don't want a bad breath. I was like extra sensitive. My whole body was in like a I fight or flight mode, and I couldn't stand. I was I couldn't stop gagging. So now, whenever I brush my teeth and I gag, she's like Emmy red carpet. What's going on? Like you getting ready to do a big interview? And I'm like, s**t. But that's that's just. But as soon as I got on camera and we were live, I was completely fine. But it was almost like the buildup the night before the days leading up the morning of was, yeah, it was another level. Well, for a while, like you said, you were taking over for Ryan Seacrest, who was like the busiest man in Hollywood. So you did feel that pressure. But then it very quickly, I feel like became, you know, your thing and it was fun to watch and, you know, because you're doing bigger, bigger and better things. I am going to let you go because I know you are a father. Could you hear my son crying this whole and be honest because I have headphones, but I can't hear it? You can't. Oh, great. I just brought it up. Yeah, no, it's good. Yeah, he's supposed to be quiet now. My child comes running through the door every time, like we are the most chaotic podcast. Don't worry, I have one more question that we kind of asks Ask a lot of our guests, and I feel you'll have a really fun answer and I'm going to change it. No pressure. Number one, the question is there's a movie about your life who plays you. But now I want to do. Who plays you and who plays Lauren? Your wife? I'm obsessed with your wife. She could have her own episode. I would love to have her on and tell her story. But who plays you guys? Oh my gosh. Who plays me? Holy cow. Great question. Never thought about this. Don't see it happening. I see a movie or TV show absolutely happening about my wife because my wife story is a movie. And she, for many people that don't know, I met my wife after she lost her arm and her eye in a plane propeller accident. And it was a massive story, and I covered it and tried to interview her. And then a year passed and Giuliana Rancic got the interview and then brought her to E ! And the rest is history. Like the next day? And yeah, so I still have the letter that I wrote to her. I was like, I know you're in town with your mom. Here are some fun things to do. We have it framed in her office. It's cool. Yeah, it's such a special moment. Your wife is from Dallas, so it was a huge story in Texas, like I remember. Everything about it. So I knew who she was and I knew the story. And then I never knew that about you guys. Yeah. So that we're getting ready to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary together. So, yeah, it's been it's been cool. So I think for a low who could play low, I'm thinking like a. You don't know who I think who. Tell me. Jennifer Lawrence, Oh, Jennifer Lawrence is great. She would want Jennifer Aniston, but I just don't know if that worked. I know she's your friends fan you. I know and I love her for that. Like, we are equal on that. She. Well, you know, Jennifer Aniston, you know possible. Yeah. Jennifer, Jennifer Lawrence is good. I like that call. And then someone who would play me in that role. Let's just go crazy and say, Will Ferrell. No, Steve. Steve Carell, right? Like Steve Carell for him. Really? Mike, I love an older dweeb. Go on. I love an older, just not. Steve Carell is like my dream man. I love him so much. I sat on a plane with him one time from L.A. to Toronto and like, I almost like, sat in his lap like it just came over me. I almost just plop down on his luck. Was he like, Oh, Kelly Clarkson? I was being like, I love that man. That's I was not expecting you to say, well, federal or state. I don't know. Will Ferrell is bananas. Why did I say that? I mean, I would like to say on the record, Steve Carell would be phenomenal. OK, but you know, Steve Carell would be. I just pictured Steve Carell married to Jennifer Lawrence, and that's a wild film. That is. But you know, anything to get viewers anything to give viewers based off your comedic energy and timing. Like, for me, I have to go with like one of the Wilson brothers, Owen Wilson or Luke Wilson. Wow. Wow, wow. Wow. Have you seen that clip, by the way of Owen Wilson saying wow in every movie? Look it up right after this interview. It's phenomenal. It's like four minutes and 45 seconds of Owen Wilson saying wow in every movie. Owen Wilson would be a jury. Yeah, hi. Yeah, I'm a massive fan. His humor is, yeah, right in my wheelhouse. Last question I'll ask you before I want you to just tell us all the things where they can watch you and find you. What are you and your wife watching before bed? It's been a long day. We just we just finished the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders show, you know, because she's a Cowboys fan, we both are married into it. And I'm watching bitcoin to bitcoin right now about the guy who started this whole company. That was a complete sham. So we get we get caught up in stuff like that. We just finished the, you know, Jake Gyllenhaal show presumed innocent and we're about to start defending Jacob. I know it's four years old, but everybody said, Go see that one and I still slip through the cracks. I didn't see it. This podcast was built on the backs of defending Jacob. We started this podcast four years ago. I think I talked about it every episode for six weeks. OK, no, you're that. How you feel about defending Jacob is how I feel about feel about presumed innocent everyone saying that. So you're going to really like defending Jacob because it was like, you're going to lie. And I and I know I'm going to like presumed innocent. I know I'm going to like it, but I'm just dying that he's Oh my god. So that's the one. Yeah, we just kind of get caught up and then I'm going to finish Blackbird. I'm two episodes and that's also a year old. I'm a parent. You know, what am I going to do? I can't get everything on time. No, you can't. But please tell everyone where they can watch. You listen to you, see you all the things you're doing. Give us the rundown. Well, depending on when this is airing, but this week I'll be on E ! News 11 o'clock and then my golf show Swing By airs everywhere from an NBC special to Golf Channel. You can catch it on YouTube.
